Access

Road

By ambulance, drive towards Raigmore hospital, pass the hospital entrance on your right, at the end of the road is a small roundabout, maternity is here. Press the buzzer to be let you through the entrance. Make sure only one of the doors is opened, to prevent setting off an alarm. Go up to the 1st floor in the lift. Turn left to the NNU.

A staff member will need to unlock the outside door for you on the way out of the building using a key.

Airport

Inverness airport is 9 miles away from the hospital, and takes approx 25 minutes by ambulance

Helipad

Adjacent to the maternity hospital. The EC135 air ambulance helicopter is based at Inverness airport.   An ambulance is still required to take the incubator to the helicopter from the hospital maternity entrance, even when using the helipad.

Facilities and staffing

  • Number of deliveries per year – approx 2100
  • Number of cots;   ICU  x 2, HDU x 1, SCBU x 10.  Beds available are dependent on staffing
  • Paediatric surgeons – babies are transferred for surgery to Aberdeen, and to Glasgow for cardiac review/surgery
  • Therapeutic hypothermia (Cooling) – Babies are transferred to Aberdeen for Cooling, although there is a Criticool machine at Raigmore hospital to start the cooling process
  • CFAM – available
  • Nitric – Not available
  • There is a very good dining room in the hospital, and a hospital shop
  • Parental accommodation is available
