Advice for referring centres

Emergency referrals

Use the emergency number: 0333 399 022

The Dispatcher will take some basic details and then connect you to the transport team

All emergency referrals should be made by the most senior clinician available- wherever possible the consultant

When making your referral, please have as much information regarding the babies current clinical status to hand as possible, the transport team need this to triage the urgency of the call, ensure that they dispatch a team with the correct composition to deal with that babies needs and that we have the correct equipment.  When taking a referral, the team have the following sheet to guide the information that they collect:

ScotSTAR-Referral form

We don’t complete every field for every referral but this gives an indication of what we will be asking about.  As a rule of thumb, the sicker the baby, the more we will want to know

We have also developed a Pre-Arrival checklist that can be downloaded as a guide to make the process as smooth as possible.

Repatriations and other Elective referrals

Repatriations should be organised as described in the following document:  ScotSTAR Elective referrals guide

To contact your local team directly, their contact details are here

If there is no answer, please leave a message, the team will return your call as soon as they are available.
