Staff

During daytime 0730 – 2000 hrs there is one registered nurse and one health care assistant on duty. At night one registered nurse is on duty with assistance available from the social care facility attached to the community hospital.

In total there are 5.0 WTE registered nurses

Community Midwifery staff visit the island twice a week during the winter from Oban.

During the summer months they visit daily Monday to Friday and can be contacted via their mobile or via the contact in Oban.

There are no planned hospital births on Mull.

Young families and pregnant women visiting over the summer months must be recognised as a potential risk of an unplanned birth.

There are occasional home births and when this is planned community midwifery staff attend from Oban from two weeks before the due date until two weeks post term.

Transport Options

Air

  • Helicopters land in the hospital grounds, however there is no actual landing pad
  • Grass landing strip at Glenforsa, not thought to be suitable for the fixed wing air ambulance.

  • An area has been identified for neonatal pre transport care in the community casualty room.  This is a purpose made stabilisation room with video conferencing facilities.  The direct phone number is 01680813003.
