Transport Options
Air
Campbeltown airport is 4 miles away and is suitable for fixed wing transport, making it the transport mode of choice. Local ambulances are available for transfer to the hospital
The hospital has a helicopter landing area, but the route to the hospital is too boggy for the transport incubator. Staff could be dropped here, with the incubator following on in an emergency situation.
Road
By road the journey will take around 4 hours from Glasgow (140 miles), via twisty roads that can be difficult to pass in the winter. Opportunities for refueling are also limited and the driver should be made aware of this.
Local Access
The maternity unit is on the ground floor immediately to the right of the main entrance. The scan/clinic room is warm and has piped oxygen so is the preferred area for managing babies.
