Local Access

2 ambulances on the island, both equipped to take the transport incubator.

The hospital is situated on a hillside with a steep and narrow road to the hospital.  To get access to the first floor maternity unit the transport incubator must be pushed to the rear. There is access to a ramp which is level with the first floor rear entrance (due to a low archway the ambulance cannot get access to this ramp).  There is a ramp directly into the maternity unit but it is narrow with a 90o turn that is hard to negotiate with the incubator.  In practice this slope may be too steep/rough for access, and recently the incubator was left at the main entrance and the baby carried downstairs to the incubator.
