Description

The Galloway Community Hospital is a small community general hospital with 2 maternity beds in the Clenoch birthing centre.  There are around 100 births a year.

Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary

Staff

There are 17 midwives in total, with 1 on duty with 1 auxilliary at any time, with another 2 on call.  The majority of staff are SMMDP stabilisation course trained and 3 NLS trained in addition.  Emergency medical cover is available from the hospital A&E and anaesthetists.

Transport Options

Air

Helicopter, with landing site on hospital grounds (more info awaited)or landing on rugby pitches less that a mile from the hospital (ambulance transfer required).  25 minutes flying time from Glasgow.

Road

Long and winding road, up to 2 hours journey time.

Local Access

Via main entrance turn right at reception , then left at “T” junction at top of corridor.  Take lift on left to first floor, the turn right and  follow corridor round to the right.  Enter the ward through the doors on the right at the end of the corridor.  The unit is on the left as you enter the ward area.  Signposted from the front entrance.
