Description
Moderate sized modern district general hospital catering for a wide area and also a large influx of tourists during the summer months. The birth rate is approximately 1200 per annum. The maternity department is located on the first floor with good access for the incubator.

The main entrance to the hospital is located on West Road (A96)

The maternity is situated on the 1st floor. Good access via main entrance or via A & E entrance

The nearest airport is Inverness (closed at night).
There is an MOD airfield in Lossiemouth is closer in an emergency.
Facilities
The Maternity Unit
Within the maternity department there is one large room set up as a SCBU. There are 4 special care cots and a number of transitional care beds. There is both piped air and oxygen and plenty of power points.
Staff and Training
- There are always 2 neonatal trained midwives on duty. All staff have completed NRP training with yearly in-house updates. There is a consultant paediatrician and an SHO on call for the unit. The consultant may be on call from home. They cover A&E and paediatrics. The SHO covers obstetrics overnight.
Equipment
- There is a Hillrom resuscitaire with neopuff attachment in special care area, the same resuscitaire as in labour ward/theatres.
- Isolette incubators with full monitoring facilities available.
- Rectal temperature probes available
- Infusion pumps- Graseby 505 and Alaris
- Transwarmer mattresses
- 24 hour access to X-ray
- blood gas analysis.
- 2 SLE ventilators, CPAP can be given via Argyll prongs
