Midwife on duty contacts consultant on call at Aberdeen to arrange transfer

Description

The birthing unit is staffed during normal working hours. Mums are discharged home within 6 hours

The birth rate is approximately 30 per annum.

The Birthing Unit is on the ground floor, ramp access via Hillcroft Road at the rear of the hospital.

The Birthing Unit

Within the birthing unit there is a delivery room with a birthing pool birthing. There is piped oxygen, and cylinder air supply. There is plenty of power points and good lighting.

Staff and Training

All staff are NRP trained. The staff work 9am till 5pm with an on call rota for out of hour deliveries.

Equipment

  •  Hillrom resuscitaire with a blender and auto-breath.
  • Ti500 transport incubator, kept in A&E.
  • Small Datix Ohmeda Pulse oximeter
  • No infusion pumps.
  • No facilities to do blood gas analysis
  • X-ray available 9am till 5pm
  • Telemedicine link in A&E.

Drugs

  • Resuscitation drugs
  • Morphine and Benzyl penicillin available.
  • No Blood
