Description
Peterhead Maternity unit is a spacious unit situated on the first floor of Peterhead Hospital. There is good access to the maternity via the main entrance to lift. The birth rate is approximately 160 -200 per annum.

The Maternity Unit
In the maternity unit there are two good sized delivery rooms, one room set up for resuscitation. There is piped oxygen, cylinder air supply. There are plenty of power points and good lighting.
Staff and Training
- All midwives are NRP trained.
- There are 2 staff on duty in daytime, and one overnight, with on call back up as required.
- The staff consists of Midwives (7WTE) and nursing care assistants.
- There are no medical staff although they are attached to a Health Centre. In emergencies they could call on the staff from A&E.
Equipment
- DragerResuscitaire with neopuff attachment, blender.
- Ti500 transport incubator (which is not used).
- Oxygen saturation monitoring
- No infusion pumps.
- X-Ray facilities available.
- No facilities to do blood gas analysis
- There is a Telemedicine link in the conference room outside the maternity unit.

- Morphine and Benzyl penicillin and cefotaxime available in A&E.
